Merika Hunter was born and raised in Toronto Canada, and followed her parents to Maui in 1997. As a young parent, she took classes at UHMC and began her healthcare career as a massage therapist, putting her daughter through Montessori Hale O Keiki while earning her Bachelor’s degree in psychology from UH Hilo in 2009. She served Maui County as an EMT/Paramedic, working both ground and medevac units while attending the University of Washington School of Medicine MEDEX Kona Campus, graduating with her Master of Clinical Health Services in 2023. Her next adventure includes obtaining her Functional Medicine Certification from IFM, and she feels honored to be able to provide care for our community with the KWMC ohana.
Merika enjoys singing, doing yoga and going to the beach with her family. Merika’s passions include utilizing modifiable lifestyle choices for preventative care, geeking out on emerging neuropsychology/neuroscience advancements and adolescent health/reproductive justice.
